Meet Gwenton, our Spring inspired Gnome
Gwenton is Kerneweck (Cornish) for Spring.
"It has seemed such a long time for Gwenton...... Slumbering through Summer, Autumn and Winter, Gwenton has a very special job in the final weeks of winter when it is heading towards spring. Although he's still sleepy at this time of year, he wakes up a few times a week in the run up to spring to check on the progress of his spring bulb..... A magical bulb that brings all Spring flowers to "spring up" all around Cornwall!
He begins to collect dewdrops a few mornings a week, and gently waters the magic bulb before climbing back into his cosy nest and sleeping again.
One morning he awakens to collect dew drops, and magic has happened! There is a tiny green shoot coming from the top of the bulb! With excitement, he gathers a few dew drops from the tree above his underground burrow, and places them next to the green shoot...... and his eyes widen with delight when a flower shoot appears, and a beautiful pink flower unfolds it's petals in front of his eyes.
The blooming of this flower is the offical start of Spring! His work will now begin. He has to take his magical bulb to all Spring flowering trees and plants, and place it next to them. The magic from his bulb then transfers to the slumbering plant, and it also begins to flower!
Kit contents:
50g professionally scoured perendale wool (uncarded) from Hannah's Flock.
10g of our own mixed breed carded wool
20g Spring mixed breeds locks
5g gotland undyed curly wool
5g dark brown mixed species fibre
Instruction booklet
Kit with props: contains the above, plus wire and flower buttons for his hat!
You'll also need a felting mat and needles (not supplied in the kit)
