Our whole raw Perendale fleece have an interesting textile history! It's a New Zealand breed made from 2 UK breeds - Romney and Cheviots
They were 'created" by Geoffrey Peren, a London man who moved to NZ after World War One, and discovered that the Romneys who had been imported a centory or so before were not doing so well, so he added in the bloodlines of cheviot to create this new breed....
About Romneys -
Coming from Romney Marsh, these dual purpose sheep have an average micron count of 29-36
and a staple of 4-6" with no kemp
About Cheviots -
Coming from Northumberland, these dual purpose sheep have and average micron count of 30-35 and a staple of 3-5" with no kemp. Cheviots have a helical crimp (3D) which is quite unusual!
Perendale sheep -
Our skirted, raw fleeces:
- Weigh an average of 1.5 - 2kg but weights vary naturally per fleece
- Have an average micron count of: 30-35
- Have an average staple length of 6"
- Very low VM
- Are grown here in the UK, by my friends Hannah and Neil on the foothills of Bodmin Moor
- Have incredible natural bounce and loftiness.
NOTE - DUE TO CUSTOMS REGULATIONS, I USUALLY ONLY SEND RAW FLEECE WITHIN THE UK. IF YOU ARE AN OVERSEAS CUSTOMER, PLEASE CONTACT BEFORE PURCHASING SO I CAN ENSURE IT WILL BE A LEGAL IMPORT INTO YOUR COUNTRY.
PLEASE ALSO NOTE - DUE TO THE QUICK TURNAROUND ON THESE FLEECES, THE FLEECE PICTURED IS INDICITIVE OF THE FLEECE YOU WILL RECEIVE, AND THERE MAY BE SOME NATURAL VARIATIONS IN WEIGHT, STAPLE LENGTH AND LOCK STRUCTURE.
